The Allegany/Garrett Counties Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association met on May 15, 2022, for our monthly meeting. During the monthly meeting, the membership present, unanimously voted to endorse Delegate Mike McKay, a candidate for Maryland State Senator.

Delegate Mike McKay has been a longtime supporter of the volunteer fire-rescue departments in Allegany and Garrett Counties. In addition, Mike volunteers to host the Fellowship of Christian Firefighters Breakfast and has done so on many occasions.

The Allegany Garrett Counties Volunteer Fire Rescue Association believes that someone that will represent numerous counties in the State Senate should have experience, and Mike has shown that working in the Maryland House of Delegates and on the Allegany County Commission. In addition, Mike is an honorary member of Potomac Volunteer Fire Company and a Member of the House Appropriations Committee, Public Safety & Administration Subcommittee, and numerous other leadership positions. Just this past session, Mike introduced HB900 which, “Prohibiting the Maryland Department of Health and local health departments from collecting fees for certified or abridged copies of death certificates for first responders killed in the line of duty if the copy is provided to the first responder’s surviving spouse or child for a certain purpose.”

We graciously thank Mike for his continued support to our association and look forward to continuing to serve beside him.
